Best Chocolate Chips

Have you been to the baking aisle at your local grocery store lately? Have you noticed the wide variety of chocolate chips that are now available?

A New Twist on the Classics
Most chocolate chip cookie recipes call for semi-sweet chocolate chips. But some people believe that milk chocolate chip are the best chocolate chips for making cookies. There are also white chocolate chips, and Ghirardelli (the gourmet chocolatier) makes chocolate chips too. Since these are gourmet, some people think these are actually the best chocolate chips. Hershey also makes chocolate chips, and then there are the generic grocery store brands.

The first brand that probably comes to mind when you think of chocolate chip cookies is Nestle. After all, the Nestle Toll House cookie was the first chocolate chip cookie recipe. And Nestle was the first to make chocolate chips. Because of this history, some people think Nestle makes the best chocolate chips. And they've even made different varieties in the last couple of years, like:

Peanut Butter & Milk Chocolate Swirled
Chocolate Chunks
Milk Chocolate & Caramel Swirled
Semi-Sweet & White Chocolate Swirled

After you try baking with these, you might change your opinion about which ones are the best chocolate chips. But one thing is certain--when it comes to choosing which chocolate chips are the best chocolate chips, opinions will vary.
