Chocolate chip cookies are a gift from the heart (especially if you make them yourself) and they're a gift that most people are more than happy to receive--even if you decide to buy gourmet chocolate chip cookies instead of making your own. If you buy or make big ones, you can stack them (once they're cooled), wrap them in colored plastic wrap and tie a pretty bow around the stack. Imagine the look on the face of the person getting this awesome gift: "Chocolate chip cookies! All right!" the person will likely exclaim.

Giving a gift to someone who likes to bake? Give chocolate chip cookie mix in a jar. All you need is a 1-quart jar and the dry ingredients! Minimal effort, maximum joy! Here's the recipe:

Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix in a Jar

1 3/4 cups flour

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips

3/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup sugar

1. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.

2. Place flour mixture in a 1-quart jar.

3. Layer remaining ingredients in the order they are listed above, pressing firmly after each layer.

4. Seal with lid and decorate with fabric and ribbon.

Attach a recipe card with the instructions. Here they are:

1. Preheat oven to 375.

2. Beat 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) softened butter, 2 eggs and 3/4 teaspoon vanilla in a large mixing bowl until blended.

3. Add cookie mix and mix well. (Break up any clumps.)

4. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.

5. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until light golden brown.

6. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely. Makes 2 dozen cookies.
